Unleashing the Power of the Universe: A Closer Look at The Secret’s promises

Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret is more than a best-selling self-help book. It’s been translated into more than 50 languages and has sold more than 25 million copies. But since it’s written and presented like some toxic positivity magic spell I always hesitated to work my way through it. Now that I did, I want everyone to know how good its advice is — if you can read between the lines.

The Secret

Now, I’ll get straight into it: The Secret can be summarized in one sentence: What you do is what you get. What you think is what is reality. Ok, I know that was two sentences, please ignore it, sounds more dramatic that way.

The book emphasizes the idea that positive thinking and visualization can lead to material and spiritual abundance.

In the first section of the book, Byrne introduces the concept of the Law of Attraction, which states that we attract into our lives whatever we focus on. According to Byrne, our thoughts and emotions have a magnetic power that attracts like energy, whether positive or negative. She says that if we want to change our lives, we must change our thoughts and emotions to focus on what we want, rather than what we don’t want.

The Law of Attraction (and why I don’t use it)

In the second section of the book, Byrne goes into more detail about the Law of Attraction (LOA), providing examples of how it has worked in the lives of others. She argues that everything we experience in our lives is a result of our thoughts and emotions and that we have the power to change our circumstances by changing our focus.

Byrne argues that the law of attraction is a universal principle that governs everything in the universe. According to this principle, people’s thoughts and emotions attract corresponding experiences into their lives. Therefore, positive thinking and visualization can attract positive experiences, while negative thinking can attract negative experiences.

The Secret explains that people can use the law of attraction to manifest their desires by visualizing and feeling as if they have already received what they want. The key to successful manifestation is to focus on the positive aspects of what they desire and to let go of any doubts or negative emotions.

However, I don’t think that the LOA is the easiest tool to start manifesting. I myself found much greater success with the Law of Assumption. It’s a concept that was popularized by Neville Goddard, a spiritual teacher who believed that our thoughts and assumptions shape our reality.

Here are a few reasons why the Law of Assumption may work better for you than the Law of Attraction:

  1. The Law of Assumption focuses on assumptions rather than desires

The LOA is often associated with wanting and desiring something. However, the Law of Assumption emphasizes the importance of assuming that what you desire is already yours. This shift in mindset can be more powerful than focusing on what you lack, as it allows you to tap into the feeling of already having what you want.

2. The Law of Assumption is more specific

The LOA can be vague, as it focuses on attracting positive energy and experiences into your life. In contrast, the Law of Assumption encourages you to be specific about what you want to manifest and to assume that it is already a reality. This specificity can make it easier to focus your thoughts and emotions on what you want, which can increase the likelihood of manifesting it.

3. The Law of Assumption is more self-empowering

The LOA can sometimes give the impression that you need to rely on external forces to manifest your desires. However, the Law of Assumption emphasizes the power of your own assumptions and imagination to shape your reality. This can be more empowering, as it puts the focus back on your own abilities to create the life you want.

In summary, while both the LOA and the Law of Assumption are based on the idea that your thoughts and emotions shape your reality, the Law of Assumption offers a more specific, imaginative, and self-empowering approach to manifesting your desires. By assuming that what you want is already a reality, and using your imagination to create vivid mental images of your desires, you can tap into the feeling of already having what you want, which can make it easier to manifest it in your life.

How do I use this in everyday life?

In the final section of the book, Byrne provides practical advice on how to apply the LOA in everyday life. She suggests that individuals should focus on what they want, rather than what they don’t want, and use positive affirmations to reinforce their beliefs.

Byrne also suggests that we should be grateful for what we already have, as gratitude is a powerful way to attract more positive experiences into our life. She encourages readers to create a vision board, which is a visual representation of their goals and desires, as a way to help them focus their thoughts and emotions on what they want to manifest. I’m also a big fan of vision boards, go and try it (Pinterest works best for me).

Conclusion

In The Secret Byrne offers numerous examples of people who have used the LOA to manifest wealth, health, and happiness in their lives. She also provides practical exercises and techniques for readers to apply the LOA in their own lives.

While the book may not be a comprehensive guide to achieving success and happiness, I think it’s a great first step into manifestation and aligning with your goals and wishes.
